The Empact (Empowerment in Action) Fellowship is a prestigious program designed to empower young leaders and rising social entrepreneurs of color to make a positive impact in their communities. Here are some frequently asked questions about the Empact Fellowship:

  1. What is the Empact Fellowship? – The Empact Fellowship is a selective leadership development program that provides training, mentorship, and resources to young changemakers of color who are committed to creating positive social change.
  2. How long is the fellowship? – The Fellowship is 15-20 months and lasts throughout two academic years and one summer.
  3. What type of commitment do fellows make? – Fellows should expect to spend no more than 5 hours on average per week devoting time to projects or assignments, and no more than 10 hours a week during their paid 9-week summer field placement assignment. There will also be some community involvement, events, and trips fellows will be encouraged and/or required to attend.
  4. How will the fellowship be delivered? – There will be virtual and in-person components of this fellowship.
  5. What type of trips or events will fellows participate in? – Fellows will participate in college tours and/or an HBCU homecoming experience as well as community events which may include festivals, community clean-ups, neighborhood art projects, and engagement related to their community councils.
  6. Is transportation provided? – Transportation to and from trips will be provided, but fellows will be expected to secure reliable transportation to and from community and networking events, in-person workshops, and their summer field placement assignment. Fellows or students interested in the fellowship who feel transportation may be an issue should be in touch with the program director to discuss options and support that will allow them to participate (info@byeinstitute.org).
  7. Should I apply if I have other commitments? – We encourage all students who are interested in the fellowship to apply and share as much about their other obligations via their online application. This will allow our team to create an experience for individual fellows that allows them to participate in this meaningful work alongside their other obligations and responsibilities.
  8. What are the benefits of being an Empact Fellow? – Empact Fellows have the opportunity to participate in a year-long paid program that includes workshops, networking events, professional development and certifications, and access to a community of like-minded individuals and mentors who are passionate about creating a better community throughout Greater Cincinnati.
  9. How can I apply for the Empact Fellowship? – Interested individuals can apply for the Empact Fellowship by submitting an online application that includes information about their background, experiences, and a short essay sharing the social impact they hope to achieve.
